For musicians – by a musician
My name is Hannelore Sill, and I am a musician, music educator and licensed physiotherapist.
Since 2024, I have been training in Timani, a method specifically developed for the unique physical demands of musicians, at the Musicians Health and Movement Institute (MHMI) in Oslo. I expect to become certified in summer 2027.
What would you like to develop in your music-making?
I offer individual sessions using the Timani method for singers and instrumentalists – for professional musicians, music students and amateur musicians.
We work with your body in direct relation to your instrument or voice, and this may include:
tension and discomfort in the neck, shoulders, arms and hands
finding effortless support and stability in your playing position
being able to vary your playing position during long rehearsals and performances
speed and coordination in technically demanding passages
airflow and regulation of abdominal pressure for singers and wind players
a stiff or shaky bow arm
developing a fuller sound without forcing - access the “heavy arm”
a need for constant movement to create stability, where the movement feels effortful and is not connected to the musical expression
working with performance anxiety through a body-based, bottom-up approach
The Timani approach
Timani helps musicians understand their own anatomy in relation to their instrument or voice. This provides a better understanding of why playing-related problems or difficulties with technique and sound production arise and how they can be addressed.
Through movement analysis and individually tailored exercises, we explore how you can use your body in a more efficient and energy-saving way when playing or singing.
