Timani

Move with ease. Play with freedom.

Developed specifically for musicians by the Norwegian pianist Tina Margareta Nilssen, the Timani method is based on anatomy, movement analysis and individually tailored exercises that improve stability, coordination and movement efficiency.

Timani helps musicians develop a more efficient and sustainable relationship between body, instrument and musical expression. It provides a deeper understanding of the body's role in music-making and can help reduce unnecessary muscular effort, thereby allowing for greater freedom in performance.

During a session, we work directly with your instrument or voice to explore how your body can better support your music-making, allowing you to play or sing more freely and with less effort.

Who Can Benefit from Timani?

Timani may be right for you if you:

Experience pain, discomfort or fatigue while playing or singing

Feel that your body is limiting your technique or musical expression

Want to play or sing with less effort and better coordination

Are curious about how the body influences sound and musical expression

What to expect

Every session is tailored to you, your instrument or voice, and what you want to develop. You play or sing while we explore together how your body works in relation to your music-making. A session includes:

  • a movement analysis related to your instrument, voice or conducting.

  • individually tailored exercises based on what playing your instrument or singing requires of your body, designed to improve stability, coordination and movement control.

  • practical application directly in your music-making.

The exercises require no special equipment or physical contact.

Timani around the world

Timani is used by soloists, ensembles, music students, professional musicians, music teachers and university professors around the world.

As awareness of musicians' health continues to grow, Timani is becoming part of the education offered by an increasing number of conservatoires and universities worldwide.
